The Rescue Floppy

  First thing to do is download the rescue floppy made by Debian Project Here  

You will need rawrite from your tools directory on the CD to write the image.Read the included docmentation.

Boot with the floppy then at first prompt press " F3 ".

Type " rescue root=dev/hdaX "where X is your Linux partition. Now the sytem will startup.On my Corel Linux the system came up trying to startX and hanged there.If the same is happening to you just press CTRL ALT F1 login as root and do whatever you need to do.

Note:I suspect it's kdm's fault that the system will keep switching to console 7 where X is trying to start.Just press CTRL ALT F1 to go back to tty1.
